5K Run For Warmth
The "5K Run/Walk For Warmth" charity race is to build up a scholarship fund to assist homeowners, who have trouble paying for oil during the winter months. As the threat of an actual winter intensifies, advocates for the poor have been worrying about how low-income households will cope with the high cost of heating oil.
Heating oil prices hit record levels, each winter session, even as natural gas prices plunge. President Obama has proposed sharply cutting the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and Maine is at this point expecting less than half of the $55.6 million that it received last winter, even as more people are applying.
In addition, more than 8 million U.S. households rely on heating oil to heat their homes, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. State oil prices jump during those cold months between November and March, influencing residents to look for deals to keep their bills low.
We ask our community and businesses to show support by either registering or sponsoring our 5K race every Labor Day weekend and help keep New Jersey's residences stay warm this winter season by "Run/Walk For Warmth" during our 5K race. Click here to view 2016's live coverage.
